Andrea Cannon, DVM, DACVD has been a board certified dermatologist since 1996. She has been in private practice for 26 years. Dr. Cannon has lectured throughout the world and enjoys the collaborative nature of referral medicine.
Once you have clicked the "Request Services Now" button below, you can then e-mail any relevant information to the case. This may include a complete history, medical records, in-house diagnostics (cytology, skin scrapings, ear cytologies), blood work, biopsies, photographs, all current medications and your specific questions. We will review the information in a timely manner and advise as to differential diagnoses, further diagnostics and therapeutic options.
The 3 month period per consultation allows for review of further diagnostics, responses to therapies and any questions that arise.
Dr. Cannon provides a timely, email based veterinary dermatology consultation. The fee for this service is $130.00 per pet which includes the initial evaluation and a 3 month period to allow for follow up questions and additional diagnostic review as needed.

Samples should be taken from numerous sites.
For dry lesions use clear tape, pressing against lesions multiple times. Stain in the "orange stain" and then the "purple stain" (do not use the fixative). Rinse (tap water is fine), then place on a slide and pat dry.
For moist lesions you can gently press the slide against the lesion and stain using the fixative and the 2 stains, rinse blot dry.
Scan slides at 10X power to find cellular areas then move to your 100X oil immersion lens. You should look at a minimum of 10 high power fields in different areas of the slide.
Cytology should be performed at every visit.

ISCAID has updated its definition of pyoderma and recommends topical therapy for superficial pyodermas. If antibiotics are needed first choice antibiotics should be chosen. Note that Cefovecin and Cefpodoxime proxetil are NOT first line antibiotics. SEE CHARTS BELOW.
